Different seasons mean different destinations in the Hotel Reservations business.
In the summer our potential customers go on road trips, hit the beaches, and travel to city destinations (like New York, Seattle, Chicago). Popular destinations fill up early and prices are high.
However, summer is ending and, while travel bookings do slow down, there is still a lot of travel going on. Much of that travel needs a hotel, with one and two night stays becoming the norm. (Of course the cold weather brings out the ski vacation travel packages and trips to the islands. But those are mostly taken up [sold] by the “big boys” of travel, especially with their TV ads.)
Sites targeting small “local” destinations will do well as people travel “home” for the holidays. Those “homes” may not accommodate visiting family members with the new crop of kids.
Cool Fall weather also prompts weekend getaways. Winery tours, fall leaf/foliage tours and visits to college homecomings come to mind. If you have a site about college and/or back to school at the college/university level. There are visits to take the kids back. There are also ‘family weekends” at many colleges.
Put your thinking caps on – and come up with some more creative ideas for marketing hotel bookings along with your normal site activities. Remember that our model at Bookable Hotels focuses on niche marketing of hotel stays at the local level. What other reasons for fall/winter travel can you think up?
